Wow the city of hundreds of bridges!! The most that we counted walking over in one day (we didn’t start counting until Sun), was 44 bridges! It’s a brilliant work out for your calve muscles! Its a stunning place.

We rented an apartment and I’m so glad that Anna & Dan (who shared the apartment with us), know some Italian, otherwise it would have been a LOT harder communicating with the Italian older lady who looked after the apartment. Well Anna knows some basic Italian & Dan knows some Spanish which apparently helps a bit! It was a lovely apartment, with 2 bedrooms & two bath/shower rooms, a kitchen and a lovely living/dining area. We only had a small counter top grill/”cooker”, which limited our cooking choices a little bit – not enough room for pizza! on the first day we stocked up on lots of food so we could cook at “home” for 2 meals & save ourselves some money. It worked really well, leaving us with more cash in our wallets, at the end of the day, than we’d budgeted for!

I’m really neglecting this blog at the moment, ekk! I blame Facebook and Twitter mainly, but also that I now have more people to write to (by hand/by email), so once I’ve expressed myself through all of those methods, I don’t really feel the need/want to also say it on here… sorry! I need to get Twitter to update my feed on the right side of the blog, but I keep forgetting to persuade Andy to help me do it (he’s much quicker than me at it).

Well at the moment my brain is filling with mental lists of things in preparation for our holiday to Italy! It’s been a few years since Andy and I have travelled abroad, partly because Andy’s passport needed renewing and kept being put off and also because there was lots of other things happening around the UK that used up our annual leave, meaning that it’s just been easier/cheaper to have holidays in England.

This year, since I’ve already hit 30, and Andy’s not far behind (August 24th – my toy boy), we decided to do all the fun, more expensive things we’ve wanted to do while it’s just the 2 of us. When we decide to start a family our financial situation will change (less money to go on holiday), as will the amount of organising to go on holiday!

I’ve been trying to search for my European Health insurance card recently, as it’s gone missing. In the middle of my searching/organising things, I had a look at Andy’s card, and spotted the expiry date – it expired at the beginning of this year! DOH! It stopped me bothering to look for my card, because it’s probably out of date as well! I’ve  just ordered a new card for Andy and I, and paid an extra £5 so that I can use it immediately.

Ahh, should stop typing this and get stuff sorted for youth club tonight…

I thought since I haven’t updated this much recently, I should have a look back at whats been happening so far this year:

- The new year started with feeling ill/sick. Probably alcohol related, but then in the following weeks & months I had the same feeling/symptoms without the alcohol being the cause – not sure what’s up there, but did check I wasn’t pregnant twice!
- Taking the second pregnancy test when Andy was around was interesting, gave me a good insight into how he feels about having a child. There’s one thing talking about it, but another seeing that glimmer of disappointment when the test is negative! We want to start a family, but not quite yet, and not after drinking! There’s a few things we’d like to do first before having another person to look after 24-7.
- March 5th I turned 30 years old! I don’t have a problem with getting older, I just would like to look a bit closer to my age. I still get IDed from time to time because I don’t look 25!
- For my birthday I got a hot air balloon ride for Andy & I! I’ve wanted to do one for a long time. This is one reason I’m glad I’m not pregnant at the moment, as I wouldn’t be able to do it!
- We got a new sofa. The old leather one had broken in the middle, so sitting either side you’d find yourself leaning into the middle. We bought a material one, with removable cushions. It was a bargain at less than £250 including delivery!
- We’re still running youth club on a Tuesday evening. At the moment it’s on holiday, because it’s Easter holiday, and then there’s the royal wedding, so it doesn’t start up until May! The club’s going pretty well. There’s always a handful who make things more difficult, and parents who don’t give you a heads up about their child’s behavioural issues!!

Through the years I’ve had a number of pen pals that I’ve written to. Some have drifted away/lost contact/become too busy over the years, and I’ve started writing to many new ones. Many of the ladies who don’t write now or write less often are too busy with being a Mum, which is fair enough, our priorities change in life, and being a good Mum & wife are top priorities in life.

I’ve found that the more letters I write, the less I tend to blog! There’s a direct correlation. In life, I find that I need to share what’s been going on, with a certain amount of people to be content, so if I’m sharing thoughts, joys and worries with pen pals & friends, then I feel less need to write on my blog to express it. Facebook probably doesn’t help this blog either, as I’ll update my status and get a pretty instant response from friends.

I may not blog often, but i haven’t forgotten this blog. I’ll be back from time to time, so keep an eye out.

It’s an interesting job! Thanks to an ad on Facebook (I normally ignore ads, but thought this looked interesting) I found out about the support worker forum:

http://www.supportworkerforum.com/

It’s really good place to share ideas, comments and experience!

Just under 2 years ago, I started weight watchers. I paid for a monthly pass which paid for me to weigh at any meeting, save me money on monthly fee and meant I could track what I ate online. About a month ago I reached my goal weight, so I cancelled my monthly subscription because as a “gold member” you don’t have to pay to weigh. I didn’t realise until this week that I’d have to pay to still track online!! I’ve paid a lot of money to WW, encouraged others to join and now they want me to pay more so I can keep track of what I’m eating… Forget it! I’m less bothered about tracking these days anyway, my weight loss/maintenance is doing well with my own mental monitoring: bad day means I need a good day or two! Other than the products that I’m likely to buy at the meetings, when I go along (cos I like them), I don’t want to pay Weightwatchers anymore money!!

I’ve been meaning for a while to blog from my iPod touch, but have never got round to it since the other week when I got Andy to set it up for me (I’m so lazy). On a Thursday I often support one chap from 2-7pm, and during that time he likes to watch Countdown & Deal or no deal. I’m mainly there for his safety during this time & to give him some company. If there’s nothing for me to do (e.g. ironing – which is what I did yesterday), then I often make the most of a wireless signal I can connect to, and look at stuff online!!

My shifts at work have changed, so now, instead of leaving one persons place before 9.30am, and getting to the next persons for 10am – which was the amount of time it took for a casual stroll between them. Now the time I support the 2nd chap varies and is an hour less, which complicates things! Whatever time I see him I’ve got spare time to waste in between. To complicate things more, I need to plan my time with him, to allow plenty of time to finish each task cos he’s got OCD. Leaving his flat on time requires prompting him to get ready 30mins early! If I overrun in my own time I’m not too bothered, but when I need to go and see someone else, whose a stickler for time, its more of a hassle! This is the joy of the budget cuts, and it’s likely to get worse! The problem that I have with extra time is how to use it well & not waste it! If I drive I have time to go home in between, but then I’m using up more expensive petrol, and leads to me driving the chap to his workplace instead of getting the bus with him. If I go home it’s easy to waste time, I’m very good at wasting time, hey it’s what I’m doing now!! I should be getting up and ready for the day but instead I’m blogging from bed!

Ok, I should get my rear (& my ear) out of bed!!

Ear update: Well because I’m getting pain from my ear they can’t syringe it. The nurse checked me over – looked in my throat, checked my temperature and looked in my ears. He didn’t seem to be concerned of any infection, so just told me that I need to keep putting warm Olive oil in, and if it’s still a problem in a week to go and see my Doctor to look into further treatment (e.g. hospital). I’ve just been told to keep taking paracetamol for the pain!
